CHARACTER: CANON SECTION
NAME: Zero
AGE: physically 17, mentally 19
CANON: Drakengard 3

CANON HISTORY: Zero @ the Drakengard wikia
CANON PERSONALITY: Zero may seem like your typical ruthless, nasty foul-mouthed villain, but in reality, she's so much more than that. Described as lazy, irritable, apathetic, and completely uninhibited when it comes to men, Zero would be the first to say that there's nothing good about her. This isn't quiet self-deprecating humor either—the fact that there's nothing of value in her entire existence is her own frank opinion. In her own words, the only thing she has that she can call her own is life, something she understands quite well that she'll lose well enough. She's nihilism in a nutshell, but that's simply one facet to who she is.

To put it simply, Zero is, well... simple. If she has to do something, she wants to get it done quickly. If she doesn't want to do it, no force on earth could get her to do it. Due to the fact that the only goal she has is to kill all her sisters, this unfortunately spells disaster for everyone else. It doesn't matter who stands in her way to reaching her sisters and killing them—whether they're soldiers, women, children, or the elderly, she doesn't give a damn. If someone stands in her way, she's going to kill them to get them out of her way, easy as that. However, that isn't to say she really enjoys killing people. In truth, she's been killing people for so long that she describes it as being "as natural as taking a piss". Whereas her companion Dito revels in the blood and pained cries of their enemies, Zero doesn't care one way or the other about it. There have been plenty of times where she didn't actually need to kill someone, but she did it regardless. She herself doesn't understand why she does; she's simply accepted it as it is. It just comes to her so naturally at this point that she sees no point in trying to stop it. Really, if it's not something that comes up immediately or is in her way, she won't see much reason to think about it. It's not that much of a problem, after all.

When faced with obstacles though, Zero's irritability and short temper quickly reveal themselves. She's extremely impatient and will complain about what's bothering her the entire time she's dealing with it. Look, platform jumping is stupid and a waste of time and how does it even work? Magic? Isn't that a convenient explanation, whenever something happens that you don't know how to explain, just say "magic" and it'll answer everything! That fairy king guy wasn't going to tell them anything useful anyways, so what if she squished him in her hand like a bug? It's not her problem that all the fairies are without a king now, they can go find someone else. Even when traveling with her companions, she frequently threatens physical violence if they start to annoy her with their own comments, and if not violence, she can easily come up with a sarcastic insult for hem. With Mikhail, it's not just threats; she frequently beats or stabs him when he's irritating her in particular. Given her short temper, violence is the easy solution to every annoying thing that comes her way. While her direct, straightforward determination carries her through much of her journey, it's this same thing that has her view just about anything that gets in her way as an annoying hindrance.

However, despite impatient and irritable attitude, she's also extremely nonchalant with a number of things. For one, Zero is the complete opposite of picky when it comes to food and men; she's even described in game as so un-picky that she would eat off the floor willingly. Perhaps it's due to the fact that she couldn't afford to be picky when she was younger, but seeing as how she can easily get food now, it's a bit much. Considering how violent she is, her unquestioning attitude with Dito's fascination for blood and guts and suffering might not be a surprise, but even the most sexually open of people would probably find Octa's desire to try having sex with a black hole really weird. Zero couldn't care less though, and any comments from her regarding her companions' weirder habits are more likely to be making fun of them than questioning it. As for any of her own particular weirdness, she simply doesn't care what other people think. She's crass, vulgar, and will say whatever is on her mind no matter how dirty or horrendously inappropriate. While she considers herself to be worthless, she's very confident in her own abilities, sometimes to the point of cockiness. Comically enough, it's usually when she's at her most confident, usually recklessly so, that something will come along to ruin or otherwise mess up whatever she's confident about.

Given everything Zero presents about herself, she seems more like a villain protagonist than anything else. However, underneath all the swearing and killing, there are a few examples of an at least decent person somewhere in there. For as much trouble she gives Mikhail, she also cares about the young dragon very much. Whenever Mikhail is in real, actual danger, Zero does everything she can to take care of and protect him. She begs him to flee or reincarnate rather than sacrifice himself for her; during the story branches where he does indeed die for her, she either flies into a bloodthirsty rage or breaks completely. Zero would be the last person to admit that she actually cares for what is essentially a kid dragon, but in the long run, she wants him to live on. The fact that he still has a life to live and is young enough to not be jaded and cynical from the world matters a lot to her. For all the crap she gives her other companions as well, she's actually quite grateful for everything they do for her. Rather than taking them into the final battle with her in one branch like they want to, she stops them and returns them to their original forms instead of letting them die in battle. In some branches where they die, Zero looks notably sad or solemn about it; sometimes one of them dying is a direct result of them betraying her, but she's never angry or mad about it, even if she shows no mercy. As ruthless as she can be, there's still something of a heart in there.

Undeniably angry and bitter, it's no surprise that she originally died cursing the world. While she certainly continued the injustice that her own life was so full of, she recognized that and considered the world to be meaningless with how much wrong was in it. The people who fought for justice, and the weak always ended up losing in her world—it was wrong, and a world like this had to be wrong for even existing. She says so herself that she never hated anyone, no matter how they might have wronged her. It was the world's fault for allowing such wrongness to happen in the first place. Despite this, when she realized that the flower that brought her back to life wanted to destroy this worthless world, she did everything she could to stop it—killing herself, finding a dragon, hunting down her "sisters" across the world, whatever it took. It was at the cost of her own life, but it was a life she thought was worthless to begin with anyways. Whereas she originally died cursing and condemning the world, she was finally able to leave it at peace. No matter how little she cared about the world, there was something in her that didn't want to leave the world with no fighting chance against something so unfair and horrible. Whether she realizes it or not, despite everything that says otherwise, the potential for kindness is there in her.

SKILLS/ABILITIES: Intoners as a whole have heightened strength, ability, and endurance compared to an ordinary human; they're described as being essentially god-like even. As an Intoner, Zero has a number of other strange powers, most notably being capable of using magic through the power of song. Most often, this power is used in combat by absorbing blood. The more blood Zero drenches herself in, the more powerful she becomes, and after having been soaked in enough blood, she can briefly unleash what the game calls "Intoner Mode". Her strength and speed increase exponentially, and she becomes nigh invulnerable for a short amount of time. Other uses of song magic include creating shields, creating barriers, setting curses, and even summoning magical, powerful creatures for combat. An Intoner's song is a powerful thing though; without a strong enough mind, it can easily go out of control. What should be a song to increase one's strength could turn them into a zombie, or a song spell to aid children in recovering from illness leads to them turning into a giant homunculus monster.

Zero is capable of healing herself, primarily through regeneration. For example, if she was to lose a limb, she could simply stick it back onto herself, and the arm will reattach and work with no problem. While cuts and the like will heal on their own, if she takes enough damage or what would otherwise be a fatal wound, she will regenerate from the flower in her eye. The flower will bloom, growing exponentially larger, until a new Zero emerges from the center covered in blood. This process can be interrupted by blocking the center of the flower, but otherwise, she can regenerate almost infinitely. The only way she (and the rest of the Intoners) can be truly killed is by the power of a dragon, either by being defeated by a dragon itself or by being killed by a weapon made out of a dragon, such as a sword made out of dragon bone. Like the rest of her Intoner sisters, Zero also has an incredibly high sex drive.

Having fought to survive nearly her entire life, Zero is extremely adept in combat. Her preferred weapon is a sword, but she is also proficient in using spears, chakrams, and bracers for hand-to-hand combat. Combined with her enhanced strength, agility, and endurance as an Intoner, she's capable of killing dozens of regular people single-handedly. She often faces monsters more than twice her size with little to no problem and can decimate armies without breaking a sweat.

CHARACTER: AU SECTION
AU NAME: Rose Geteilt
AU AGE: 24
PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES: No flower in her right eye of course, and no white hair and light pink eyes either. Instead, she's a platinum blonde with hazel eyes.

AU HISTORY: • abandoned at the orphanage by her mother when she was 4-years-old
• eventually came to form a pseudo-family with other young orphans, including Jasmine Geteilt ([personal profile] selfloving, permission has been granted by Shay)
• resorted to various survival work and petty thieving to support her family better than what the orphanage could provide
• hung around some martial arts schools thanks to Jasmine being friends with some of the kids who attended, took up any free lessons she could as both a way to defend herself/her family and a way to deal with stress/anger but could never afford full and formal lessons
• often got into fights defending fellow orphans from bullies and the like
• dropped out of school at 14, focusing on finding work instead
• worked through a number of jobs such as retail, fast food, dog walking, etc. but had difficulty keeping a steady job due to her temper
• aged out of the orphanage at 18
• attempted to formally adopt her family still living at the orphanage, it didn't go through despite her many attempts to fight the ruling, causing a rift between her and Jasmine in particular who believed that her older sister abandoned her family; to this day she's bitter about not being able to take them in, even though she knows there wasn't anything that could be done, but she doesn't blame any of her family for resenting her when she believes she failed them as well
• however that didn't stop her from continuing to support and provide for them
• took up sex work as a profession
• arrested at 22 after physically assaulting a client who attempted to sexually assault her, was bailed out by her "family" from the orphanage with money they pooled together
• still returned to work afterwards, although she began taking up part time jobs like retail again
• the last of her siblings who remained at the orphanage aged out, and she realized that the goal she'd worked towards her entire life was accomplished, leaving her with no idea what to do with the rest of her life
• quit sex work as she no longer needed the money quite so desperately and hadn't felt entirely comfortable taking clients since the incident that led to her arrest
• current hobbies include browsing around various cafes and boutiques out of curiosity as she couldn't afford anything so nice when she was younger; occasionally indulges in buying cakes and sweets to try out and give to her siblings
• still frequently gets into fights thanks to her ever-present short temper
• currently works at Cabaret Club Sunshine as a hostess
AU PERSONALITY: In a lot of ways, Rose is quite similar to who she was as Zero—lazy, short-tempered, horribly foul-mouthed. However, as much as she tries to hide her heart of gold underneath a bad attitude and shady antics, she really does have a heart of gold in comparison to her canon counterpart. Despite being an orphan, the presence of her family in the orphanage changed everything for her. By sacrificing just about everything for her younger siblings, it goes to show how compassionate Rose actually is. While she knew that the methods she resorted to providing for her family would cost her not only her schooling but her own chances of getting adopted, she resorted to those methods of her own free will and without any resentment towards her family. None of them ever made her do it, she wanted to. She wanted to give them better. If doing so meant ensuring a better life for her family, that was all that mattered. Her own circumstances, others' opinions about her, the state of her future all meant rather little to her. She loves her family completely and selflessly, even if she'd be the last person to ever admit it.

Still, Rose remains quite jaded and cynical about the world, albeit in a much less nihilistic and hateful way than Zero was. There's less anger and more resignation. She remembers very clearly how her mother essentially dumped her at the orphanage, and it left her with a deep distrust of adults and their supposed care for children from a young age. As she grew up in the orphanage system and frequently saw other children being passed around from foster parent to foster parent only to end up back at the orphanage with no one willing to adopt them, her anger towards authority and the systems that made the world work only grew stronger. Still, it's a far cry from how apathetic and desensitized Zero was when it came to the cruelty of the world. Rose might not go out of her way to champion a cause or say there's probably no real justice in the world, but she'd help someone out if she saw them in trouble and wouldn't hurt someone just to get something from them. She knows she hasn't lived a great life and doesn't really know how much her life is worth when there's been so much bad, but she also doesn't think that life is absolutely meaningless, and that's already a remarkable difference.

After giving just about everything for her family though, not having to provide for them any longer has left Rose rather aimless. Whereas canon Zero is determined and hellbent on accomplishing her goals, Rose has none of that. She's already fulfilled the purpose she made for herself, and now she has no idea what she should or even wants to do next. With all of her siblings now able to provide for themselves one way or another, she doesn't have any motivation to do anything with her life aside from a general "staying alive is probably a good idea." After all, she spent all of her childhood hyper-focused on her goal of providing for her family with no time or thought spared towards anything in the future aside from making it to the next day. While she quit sex work because she wanted to, she's only working as a hostess because she knows it's something she can do, not because she actually wants to. If you asked her what she even wanted to do though, she wouldn't know how to answer.

Despite not being a particularly upstanding citizen or moral person, Rose isn't the near-heartless monster Zero was either. Her stance on sex and relationships is similarly loose, but Rose would never kill someone much less attack someone innocent and defenseless. Getting into fights is still something that comes easily to her though, whether in defense of herself or someone else or because she just enjoys a good fight or even as stress relief. She remains rather violent, especially thanks to her short temper, but she's not bloodthirsty by any means. No crime or disregard for the law will ever come close to the hundreds upon hundreds of people Zero murdered in cold blood. All that said, Rose will always be morally dubious at best, and this isn't something she's looking to fix.

Ultimately, the biggest difference between Rose and Zero is that Rose actually cares about people instead of being tragically apathetic. She's no saint and never will be, but the love and affection she received from her family ensured that she'd never be a person who could kill someone and not even blink. It's not impossible for her to form relationships with other people, and more than that, she's not against it. It can just be somewhat difficult for her as she tends to come off as intimidating and suspicious, and she doesn't think she has much to offer as a person anyways. Still, she's not so callous and cruel as to not help someone when they need it. While she might be more likely to shut someone out than let them in, that doesn't mean she can't open up and trust someone.
